Financial Planning Week 2017 In Review

We were pleased to welcome over 1100 delegates to our 2017 Financial Planning Week events, which included the CFP Professional Symposiums in Toronto and Vancouver, the Ethics Breakfast Sessions in Toronto and Vancouver, and the Celebration of the Profession Dinner in Toronto. The events were attended by stakeholders from across Canada with representation from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Thank you to all who attended, sponsored, and contributed to Financial Planning Week 2017, which took place from November 19 to 25. Whether you attended the Celebration of the Profession Dinner, or the CFP® Professional Symposium or Ethics Breakfast Session in either Toronto or Vancouver, or simply started a conversation about the importance of financial planning for the well-being of Canadians, you contributed to the most successful Financial Planning Week yet.

2017 Awareness Campaign Highlights

FPSC’s annual Financial Planning Week awareness campaign included a variety of marketing initiatives to help educate Canadians about the benefits of financial planning and the importance of working with a professional financial planner. Here are some of the activities that took place leading up to and during Financial Planning Week:

  • Globe and Mail Financial Planning Special Feature: The print edition of The Globe and Mail’s Financial Planning special feature section was published on November 20, reaching more than one million readers across Canada. An online component will continue to be promoted through advertising and social media influencers and updated with new content through February 2018. If you missed the print feature, you can still view and share all the content in the “FPW” section of
  • FP Standard: A special Financial Planning Week section appeared in FPSC’s semi-annual publication of ideas, thoughts and trends in the financial planning profession, reaching more than 70,000 readers in the financial services industry through online distribution and insertion in Investment Executive on November 13.
  • Investment Executive: Advertising in the online and print editions reached more than 42,000 readers across the country.
  • and FPSC’s consumer-focused sites received significant traffic in November. The “Find a Planner or Certificant” search tool had more than 24,000 page views, while there were a record 12,677 visits to the consumer website.
  • Social Media Advertising: Consumer-focused Facebook advertising was viewed almost 2.5 million times.
  • Media Outreach: During Financial Planning Week and all through the year, FPSC works with the media to promote the importance of getting qualified financial planning help. This year’s media coverage included appearances by FPSC’s Consumer Advocate Kelley Keehn, who shared the results of several new research studies in media outlets across the country. Kelley has been interviewed by the media more than 300 times since she began working with FPSC in April 2016, drawing attention to the importance of working with a professional financial planner and raising awareness about, and other resources.
