Prior to writing the CFP® examination, you must successfully complete an FPSC-Approved Capstone Course. The Capstone Course requires you to complete a comprehensive financial plan as further demonstration of your ability to identify and resolve complex integrated financial planning issues.
The Capstone Course is mandatory for all candidates on the path to Certified Financial Planner® certification (with the exception of holders of the Pl. Fin. or a CFP credential from an FPSB Member in another territory – see Routes to CFP Certification).
If you’re an FPSC Level 1™ Certificant in Financial Planning, an FPSC-Approved Capstone Course qualifies for the equivalent of two years of CE requirements.
You may complete the Capstone Course up to four years before writing the CFP examination. You may also complete it prior to writing the FPSC Level 1 examination. You must successfully complete the CFP examination within four years (or four attempts) of successfully completing an FPSC-Approved Capstone Course. If you are not successful on the exam within four years (or four attempts), you will need to successfully repeat the Capstone Course.
