This discussion panel on Financial Planning as a profession was moderated by Frank Burns from FPSC, and was composed of the following industry experts:
Alan Goldhar, Course Instructor, York University and Chief Investment Officer, Office of the Public Guardian & Trustee, Ontario
Alan Goldhar, CGA, CFP, FMA, CDFA, has been an Instructor with York University since 2006, teaching the Introductory and Capstone Financial Planning courses. The Program is directed towards those students who are pursuing a career in the field. The Capstone course was developed in recent years and it has provided the students with real life financial planning case studies.
Alan is also the Chief Investment Officer at the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (Ministry of the Attorney General). Alan leads a group of Certified Financial Planners and Accountants in managing the investments, taxes and financial affairs of 10,000 mentally incapable adults in Ontario. In this role, Alan is well-acquainted with the importance of comprehensive financial planning and the consequences of failing to plan. Alan and his team conduct annual financial 8-part workshops for the benefit of the non-financial staff of 300. Alan has participated in various industry panels and committees and is a strong advocate for the advancement of the profession.
Lee Corasaniti, New Advisor Training Manager,Freedom 55 Financial
Lee Corasaniti has been working in the financial industry for 28 years. Over the years she has worked in all areas of finance. For more than 17 years she has been employed in the Banking and Insurance Industry offering financial training to employees dealing directly with the public.
With a facilitating and teaching career spanning more than 20 years, Lee has educated and offered financial planning, to adults, in both workplace training and client settings. She is currently working full time with Freedom 55 Financial in the capacity of; New Advisor Training Manager, and part-time at Centennial College, teaching the CFP and CSC through the Continuing Education Department.
In addition to her financial experience, Lee has attained the following accreditations: Certified Financial
Planner (CFP); Canadian Investment Management (CIM); Canadian Securities Course; Branch Manager’s Compliance; and Life License. She is also a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI).
Yong Kim, Recruiting Leader, Edward Jones
Yong Kim started his career with Edward Jones as a Financial Advisor in 1996, opening up the first branch office in North York. In 2000 he came into the home office working in sales management (Financial Advisor Development) helping new advisors get their businesses started. This entailed traveling across the country visiting new advisors and helping them build their businesses. Shortly after, he was given the responsibility to create and develop advanced training classes for the Financial Advisors which resulted in founding the Canadian Sales Leaders recognition conference for the top 30 advisors across the country. Believing that education is foundational to all advisors, he worked closely with them to support their pursuit of advanced industry designations such as the CFP.
Currently, he is the Recruiting Leader, responsible for identifying and recruiting the best candidates for the Financial Advisor position for the firm.
Mark Galbraith, Vice President of Recruitment and Learning, RBC
Mark Galbraith is Vice President of Recruitment and Learning, RBC, responsible for learning development and delivery as well as recruitment across RBC. These responsibilities include all businesses for both domestic and international operations.
Mr. Galbraith has held a number of executive roles in Retail Banking and Wealth Management in a number of areas across Canada.
He has been with RBC for over 20 years in many different areas including Retail Banking, Wealth Management, Head Office and Contact Centers throughout Canada.
Mr. Galbraith holds a Masters in Business Administration from Dalhousie University and has his Financial Planning Designation.
