Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI)

If you have lost money and are not satisfied with the response you received from your financial services firm, OBSI may be able to help.

OBSI, or the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments, is the independent dispute resolution service for consumers with a complaint they can’t resolve with a banking services or investments firm. We cover more than 650 participating firms including all IIROC, MFDA and IFIC member firms. We also cover the banks and other deposit-taking institutions. We look at a wide range of complaints, including errors in accounts, poor disclosure and inappropriate advice. As an alternative to the legal system, and at no cost to the consumer, we work informally and confidentially to find a fair outcome. We’ll ask you to provide us with the details of your complaint along with any supporting information you have, and a copy of the last letter you received from your firm which explains the firm’s final position on your complaint. If we find that you’ve suffered a loss, we may recommend that you be compensated to “make you whole” up to a limit of $350,000.

For more information about our services, visit our website: www.obsi.ca. We have an online complaint form you can use, or get in touch through:
